Project Roadmap

Construct

It is now time to put your project plan into action. The construct phase is when all the planning you have conducted can now be applied in constructing and/or further developing your intranet. Branding will be applied, content will migrated or updated, pages will be built, and features developed. The following additional activites can also occur during the construct phase:

Agile Execution

Depending on the project, an Agile approach may be considered during the Construct phase of the project. This is particularly applicable where large amounts of development work are required (e.g. a custom function on your site). Continuous collaboration between you and SMLWRLD through testing and feedback will ensure the end result is a product that satisfies your user's needs.

Training

Depending on the project, training may need to be provided to end users or administrators. SMLWRLD can work with you on developing and delivering training. See  Training  for further information.

New Intranets

For new intranets, the construct phase is broken up into Alpha Period and Beta Period

Alpha Period

During the Alpha period:

  • The alpha test group is invited to start previewing the site.
  • AD Integration finalised
All remaining AD data should be integrated with the intranet.
  • Site is customised
Now that research and content auditing and assessment is complete, the site can be customised to:
    • Deliver site style guide and visual designs for key pages
    • Implement visual design on site Implement site architecture based on card sort
    • Customise templates (e.g., articles, person profiles, team profiles)
    • Develop new functionality

Beta Period

During the Beta period:

  • The beta test group is invited to start previewing the site.
  • Testing and Iterating occurs
The site is used for several weeks, with extended focus on user feedback and resolving any bugs or teething issues. Any new functionality should now be implemented and rigorously tested during this time.
  • Training is provided
Content owner and site administrator training is important to ensure the maintenance and continuous improvement on your intranet. Training will include:
    • Site training for administrators
    • Content management training for content owners
    • Writing for the web training for all interested staff
