What are attributes?

Attributes allow users to select or add data to articles, person profiles, team profiles etc.

Types of attributes

Upload files

• Attachments - add one or more files which show as a list of filenames with no preview
• Multimedia - upload a single document or media file and show as a preview
• Picture - upload a single image file and show as preview

Select data from pre-defined lists

• Checkbox - select one or more options from a list
• Dropdown - select one option from a dropdown list
• Hierarchical dropdown - select a series of options from consecutive dropdown lists
• Image selector - select an image from a list
• Multi select buttons - select one or more options from a set number of buttons
• Radio button - select one option from a list

Enter text

• Text editor box - input text and format it (e.g. add bold)
• Text field - input plain text

Examples of custom selection attributes

Create a Custom Selection Attribute

• Go to Admin > Attributes & Dictionary > Multimedia/Selection Custom Data
• Scroll to bottom of the page and click 'Add Attribute' button
• Enter the name of your attribute
• Select your chosen control type e.g. dropdown, checkbox, image selector
• (Optional) By checking 'Order Alphabetically', this will apply to the values provided in your attribute.
• Click 'Save'

Create a child category

• Click on the parent attribute to display the edit screen e.g. Colours 
• In the 'Add values' area, enter your child categories (1 per line) e.g. Red, Green, Blue
• Click 'Save'
• If you wish to add an image or multimedia, click on the name of the child category e.g. Blue, to display the edit screen
• Upload your image by clicking 'Upload file'
• Click 'Save'

Edit a Custom Selection Attribute

• Go to Admin > Attributes & Dictionary > Multimedia/Selection Custom Data
• Click on the attribute name you would like to edit
• From here you can edit the name, control type and order
• Click 'Save'

Delete a Custom Selection Attribute

• Go to Admin > Attributes & Dictionary > Multimedia/Selection Custom Data
• Click on the attribute name to bring up the edit screen
• Click the delete button found in the bottom left corner
• Confirm you would like to delete the attribute
