My Journey in Technology as a Woman

Despite the fact that the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sectors are heavily male-dominated, I was never put off from entering the technology field. From graduating in Law six years ago to suddenly being involved in IT, software and all things project management-related gave me a lot to take in! Despite the initial challenges, I managed to pave a way for myself where I could develop and fulfil my love for technology. I worked hard to develop my skills in IT and software, and after work I would study more and learn new things every single day.

Being a curious person really did help me develop my technology skills; I would always ask myself questions, such as: ‘I wonder how this piece of software is made?’ This would encourage me to do wider research, and find out the code behind the creation of the software. It was like a spiral, and I absolutely loved it.

The unconventional situation of working in a female-dominated company such as SMLWRLD has been fantastic. Combined with the right employer attitude and great company culture it makes for a superb formula to keep every team member happy. Now six years into a fulfilling career, I am happy that I chose a role in Technology, and being female didn’t hinder my progress in the least!
